If you want to start participating in motorcycle races, here are some tips that may be of use to you.
Buy a used motorbike at first
Whilst it might be tempting to buy a brand new motorbike straightaway, it would be far more sensible to buy one of the used motorbikes that are for sale in your local area.
There are a few reasons why you should take this approach. Firstly, if your experience of racing is quite limited, it is possible that after a few months of being involved in this sport, you may lose interest in it. If this happens, you may regret spending a small fortune on a brand new bike.
Secondly, if you're new to racing, you will almost certainly spend a lot of your practise sessions making mistakes that will result in your crashing your motorbike.
If the bike is used and already has a plethora of dents and scratches, the damage you inflict on it won't be quite as noticeable or as bothersome.
However, if the bike is brand new, you may find the development of dozens of scratches on its originally-pristine parts to be quite frustrating.
In short, it is better to wait until you have perfected your driving technique and learned how to avoid crashes before you invest in a new motorbike.
Invest in high-quality safety gear
Motorcycle racing is a high-risk sport, even for those who are highly-skilled drivers and have a lot of racing experience.
As such, it is absolutely critical not to scrimp when you are buying your safety gear. If for example, you buy a used helmet that is slightly too large for you, or which has sustained damage as a result of its previous owner being in a crash, the helmet may not provide you with the level of shock absorption that you require.
If you crash your bike whilst wearing a subpar helmet of this kind, there is a very good chance that your skull will end up fractured or that you will sustain a severe concussion.
Similarly, if you buy a second-hand, threadbare motorbike jacket, which is missing some of its protective foam padding, and you then crash whilst wearing this jacket, you could sustain severe flesh wounds as you skid across the ground (due to the friction created by the high-speed skidding motion) and could be left with permanent scars.
Given this, it is vital to invest in the best safety gear you can afford.
